Language Accessibility Advisory Committee
About
The Language Accessibility Advisory Committee (LAAC) is an advisory committee to the County Elections office.
LAAC member serve at the discretion of the County Registrar. The mission of the LAAC is to advise and assist the County Registrar with implementation of Federal and State Laws relating to access to electoral process by voters with limited-English proficiency, so that all persons who vote can understand the voting process. El Dorado County is required to provide language assistance in accordance with State and Federal law for Spanish and Chinese. The LAAC provides recommendations on identifying and prioritizing activities, programs, and policies to ensure every voter has equal access to the ballot.
Duties
- Media plans for language minority communities
- Help plan required voter education for ESL community
- Help plan the required public meeting for members of the ESL community
- Comment on the voter education and outreach plan for language minority communities
- Community presence in the language minority communities
- Determine if the elections office is prepared to provide election materials in accessible formats if requested by voters
LAAC members are expected to attend quarterly meetings at the County Election Office. This is a volunteer committee. There is no stipend or reimbursement for participating in the LAAC.
