Remote Issued Marriage License

Please review the information below to see if you meet the minimum requirements for a remote issued marriage license.  We are not currently performing remote marriage ceremonies.

  • Both parties to the marriage must be physically in the State of California.
  • We use Microsoft Teams for our appointment, you will need both live audio and video as well as reliable internet.
  • Marriage licenses are either sent by U.S. Postal Service (allow 10 business days for delivery) or picked up at either our Placerville or South Lake Tahoe office during regular business hours.

If you would like to obtain your marriage license remotely, the following steps will need to be taken:

  • Parties to the marriage will need to complete the Request for Remote Issued Marriage License(PDF, 80KB)  and email the completed request to recorderclerk@edcgov.us.  Once your request is approved, you will be contacted with a date and time for your appointment.
  • The couple will need to complete the Marriage License Application.
  • Fees for the marriage license must be paid by credit or debit card, an additional fee of $2.50 is applied by our credit card vendor.
